What a tint warranty really covers.

"Lifetime warranty" is on nearly every tint ad in the country. Here's what that phrase usually means and the questions worth asking before you rely on it.

Two warranties, not one

Almost every tint job carries two separate promises, and confusing them is where disappointment comes from.

The manufacturer's warranty covers the film itself — that it won't fade, bubble, delaminate, or turn purple within its term. It comes from whoever made the film, not from the shop.

The installer's warranty covers the workmanship — that the film was applied without trapped contamination, lifted edges, or misalignment. That one is only as good as the shop still being in business.

A film with a superb manufacturer warranty installed badly leaves you arguing that a workmanship problem is a film defect. It usually isn't.

What's typically covered

  • Colour change — purpling or noticeable fading.
  • Bubbling from adhesive failure.
  • Delamination — the film's layers separating.
  • Cracking or peeling under normal use.
  • Demetallizing on metallized films — not relevant to ceramic.

What's typically not

  • Scratches and abrasion. The inside face is exposed; damage from cleaning, cargo, seat belts, or pets is on you.
  • Damage from ammonia cleaners. Using them is usually an explicit exclusion, and it's detectable.
  • Glass breakage. Film isn't glass insurance.
  • Rolling the windows down before it cured. Peeled edges from early use aren't a defect.
  • Anything after someone else works on it. A third party removing or altering the film generally voids the claim.

The word "lifetime"

Lifetime almost always means the lifetime of the vehicle while you own it — not yours, and not the next owner's. Most warranties are non-transferable, so a car you sell in three years takes no warranty with it. Some are transferable once for a fee. If the answer matters to you, ask before the film goes on, not after.

Questions worth asking any shop

  • Who issues the film warranty, and can I see the terms in writing?
  • What's your workmanship warranty, separately, and for how long?
  • Is it transferable if I sell the vehicle?
  • Do I need to register it, and by when?
  • What documentation do you keep — can you look up my job in three years?

Our answer to the last one is that we keep your job on file, the same way we keep fleet artwork so later vehicles match. If something we installed isn't right, bring it back and we'll look at it — that's the same commitment we make on every wrap we produce.

Ask us about warranty specifics with your quote and we'll put them in writing. Request a quote.
