The Fastest Way to Brand a Work Vehicle

Vehicle lettering and cut-vinyl decals are the most affordable, fastest way to put your name, number, and logo on a work vehicle and look legit on day one. Designed, printed, and installed at our O'Fallon shop for businesses all across the St. Louis metro.

What vehicle lettering and decals actually are

Lettering and decals are individually cut pieces of vinyl — your business name, phone number, web address, license or DOT numbers, and logo — applied directly to the painted body or glass of your vehicle. There is no printed background and no full panel of film. The truck's own paint shows through between the letters, so a white van with crisp black or blue lettering reads clean and professional from across a parking lot. It is the same family of work as a wrap, just dialed down to exactly the words and marks you need, which is why it is the entry point for most trades getting branded for the first time.

This is the budget-friendly cousin of a full vehicle wrap. You give up the bold, edge-to-edge color and the ability to hide a worn-out paint job, but you keep the thing that actually drives phone calls: a legible name and number people can read at a stoplight. For a lot of owner-operators, that trade is exactly right.

Sizes, surfaces, and how it goes on

Most door lettering runs a readable name in roughly 2 to 4 inch letters with a phone number people can catch at a glance. Rear-door and tailgate graphics typically go larger so they read from the car behind you in traffic — that back panel is your most-seen surface all day. We cut from premium cast and calendared vinyls in solid colors, metallics, reflective, and frosted-glass finishes, and we weed and tape each piece for a precise, repeatable install across a whole fleet.

Installation has its own quirks. Vinyl wants a clean, smooth, room-temperature surface, so we work indoors at the O'Fallon shop rather than in a cold or dusty lot. Body lines, rivets, door seams, and the curve of a fender all change how a decal lays down, and we plan letter placement around them so nothing tears or lifts. A few specifics worth knowing:

  • Glass and ladder-rack obstructions get measured first so your number is never cut in half by a window frame or a rack leg.
  • DOT, MC, and USDOT numbers are sized to the federal legibility minimum — we make sure they are right.
  • Removability is a real advantage — lettering can usually be taken off down the road without harming factory paint, which matters on leased or resale vehicles.
  • Lifespan on quality vinyl is typically several years outdoors in Missouri weather, though that is an estimate and depends on color, sun exposure, and washing.

Who it is for, and what to pair it with

Lettering and spot graphics are ideal for plumbers, electricians, HVAC techs, cleaners, landscapers, and any owner-operator who needs to look established without a full-wrap budget. It is also the smart move on a brand-new vehicle with paint you want to show off. When you are ready for more presence, step up to a partial wrap that adds printed graphics to the rear and lower panels, or go all the way with truck and van wraps. Many crews mix it: lettering on the work trucks, a couple of fully wrapped fleet vehicles, and matching signs and banners at the shop. If your logo only exists on a faded business card, our in-house design team can recreate it as clean vector art — a paid add-on — before we ever cut a letter. How is lettering different from a full wrap?

Lettering uses individually cut vinyl — just your name, number, and logo — applied over your existing paint, so the body color shows through. A full wrap covers the whole vehicle in printed film. Lettering is cheaper and faster; a wrap gives bold, edge-to-edge color. Many businesses start with lettering and upgrade to a partial wrap later.

Will decals damage my paint when removed?

Usually not. Quality cut vinyl installed on sound factory paint can typically be removed cleanly down the road, which makes lettering a good fit for leased vehicles or anything you plan to resell. Very old or already-failing paint is the exception, and we will flag that before we install.

Can you match my logo and brand colors?

Yes. We cut from a wide range of solid, metallic, reflective, and frosted vinyls to match your brand. If your logo only exists as a low-res image, our in-house team can recreate it as clean vector art as a paid add-on so every letter prints and cuts sharp. See examples in our gallery.
